5 Essential Wardrobe Items for Guys

02.15.13

Unlike most girls who are very "sweet and nice" when it comes to fashion, most guys are going for the classy and gentleman look. But over the years, guys have learned the different ways to dress up just like the girls. Print on print, loud colors and stylish ensembles. Thus, giving the guys a lot of choices in terms of fashion.

But if you are one spendthrift guy and doesn't have much of a wardrobe, then here's a list that could help you spice things up without having to stash your cash. The items here are the most common yet stylish stuffs that can bring a spark to your look. It's a statement in itself and can bring any guy to the spotlight. Invest on these items and you are ready to be a star. So, shall we start?

5. Suit

It's definitely a must-have. Whether you are going to a formal party or event or even just a stroll in the park, nothing beats out the classiness a suit gives. Preferred colors are dark to silver gray. But now, trendy colors includes mustard and burgundy. Also, the type of fabric used can give it a boost. Try a flannel one or a wool for a change. Plus, go for other designs aside from the usual chalk lined ones.

How to wear it: For the corporate look, the classic coat and tie never fails to impress. But if you are going for a more casual look, pair with a v-neck shirt and some shorts and some suede shoes.

4. Watch

What's the time, you say? A watch is a man's must-have in fashion. It makes a simple look classy and elegant. But if you are more adventurous, colored watches are now available and easy to pair with your dress of choice. Go for a monochromatic ensemble or use the color blocking method. Be playful as a watch is your best statement.

How to wear it: Feeling classy? Use the classic silver watch. For a change, try a leather strap. If you are just on a normal casual day, colored watches are great!

3. Boots

Who says boots are for military only? A kick of this one gives you a different dimension of what a guy's fashion is. There are different kinds of boots to consider so do check out what's best and suits you. Favorite brands includes Dr. Martens.

How to wear it: Stir away from the traditional suit by adding flare to your look using boots. Try different cuts and style and colors to add a dash of creativity and awesomeness. And still, black is the top color!

2. Chino Pants

Go loco with colors. Play with them. One of the top pants used are Chino pants for their lightness and striking colors. Fave colors are khaki and tangerine. But now, bold colors like red, blue and even yellow are being used. Go away from the sophisticated look by shifting to a more playful and fun look.

How to wear it: Looks best with sneakers and boots. For the top, anything will do. Perfect for raglan and polo shirts. Be careful with your choice of colors though, you don't want to look like a carnival gone wrong.

1. Button Down Shirt

Be the cream of the crowd by wearing this classic button down shirt. Now, the styles of this top has evolved and more playful prints are out in the market. Try flower patterns and fitted top for a more urban look. And yes, the classic clean white never goes out of style.

How to wear it: Perfect with shorts or pants. Can be paired with blazers and suits. Tuck-in style is best for this one.

That's it. That's the basic things I think that guys should have in their wardrobes. These are investments. And to think of it, it's really cool to have all of them since you can just easily mix and match them to create a trendy look.

'Till next time! :)

i guess this looks awesome for those guys who's in teen or 20'30' suits for the older guys would be great. Speaking of this I saw one foreigner earlier really big body wearing shirt tucked in with mustard pant it didn't work at all haha

I'd agree with the button down shirts and suits as essentials but I'd disagree with the chino pants just not my style, thanks for this post

My list is much simpler than these but I can also go casual or go casual when it comes to clothes.

those are awesome and i guess it's hard to find things and accessories for men rather than women and women clothes can be more affordable. I love the watches :0

I think you are generalizing when you begin your post with "unlike girls." Girls have different tastes in fashion and one can never have a sweeping statement that sets them apart from guys as a whole.

yes they are definitely essential!! :)

Justin Vawter Greco T Buenagua at: 15 February 2013 07:11 said...

ahaha.. It really depends on who's wearing it.. and besides, you should definitely be aware of your body and the choice of colors.. :)

Justin Vawter Greco T Buenagua at: 15 February 2013 07:12 said...

no problem! chino pants are really great pants since they are comfy and very versatile.. they can be worn for a casual day or a very formal night.. :)

Justin Vawter Greco T Buenagua at: 15 February 2013 07:12 said...

It's all a matter of mix and match.. nothing complicated.. :)

Justin Vawter Greco T Buenagua at: 15 February 2013 07:13 said...

yes.. soooo hard! It's not an exaggeration.. men's clothes are investments and are much pricier than women's clothes.. :)

Justin Vawter Greco T Buenagua at: 15 February 2013 07:13 said...

yes.. I guess it's also a stereotype at how girls try to look "sweet and nice".. :)

Justin Vawter Greco T Buenagua at: 15 February 2013 07:15 said...

thanks for that! already corrected it.. :)

Suit is really classy and attractive, also when paired with a nice tie. :D Reminds me of Barney Stinson of HIMYM :D

I am looking for a suit for my teen.He needs it but ,they don't sell it in my place. I got to order online. Those are pretty, we just need money to afford them.

Francis Balgos at: 16 February 2013 07:26 said...

definitely its the watch for me...
It doesnt go old, but then one can make a collection of them,
one different for every occassion.
I work night shift, so I think what's missing in here is a good jacket,
may it sporty, or street punk.. jackets will never go out of style.
just avoid wearing the same jacket everyday because it'll grow old.

lastly,my newest crave right are the modern suits..
new designer suits make for a perfect daily wear than the corporate one's,
v neck shirts are perfect, just make sure that the fit is perfect too
because thats the secret in wearing suits.

Uhm.. This are good essential but not for everyone I think.. for really short and plump guys I don't think boots might be on their essential list, but I agree with the watch, and suit.. Hence maybe I was thinking of the really basic wardrobe for guys :) Good list though! :)

Nice wardrobe items but my guy prefers a rugged look because he's a die-hard biker! :)

Kim Francis Corros at: 16 February 2013 07:30 said...

I agree with eyahnism, this one's good but not for everyone , like me. haha. I prefer simple and plain fashion. But I believe there are people who will love this style.

I guess I'm covered! Funny how you didn't cover jackets/hoodies :) I find them more "essential" than boots :)

I want to own a pair of chino pants, does it also fit for girls?

Teresa Martinez at: 16 February 2013 14:42 said...

I tend towards the traditional for men's wear since trendy styles usually fit a certain age group, The right suit can make any boy or man dapper. Everyday wear would really depend on personal style preference.

yeah definitely!! he is really cool!

Justin Vawter Greco T Buenagua at: 17 February 2013 22:49 said...

try the simple suits.. not too classy but definitely not to casual either.. in that way, it's much cheaper and can be worn at any day.. :)

Justin Vawter Greco T Buenagua at: 17 February 2013 22:50 said...

indeed!! you have said it all right.. yep, jacket is a must too just don't go over the leather one since that's hard to match with.. the simpler the better.. :)

Justin Vawter Greco T Buenagua at: 17 February 2013 22:51 said...

thanks!! for the boots, I think they make you look taller actually.. just don't go with the too loud one... a simple one can be okay..

Justin Vawter Greco T Buenagua at: 17 February 2013 22:51 said...

thanks!! I guess everyone has their own type.. :)

Justin Vawter Greco T Buenagua at: 17 February 2013 22:51 said...

That chino pants and buttondown is perfect! I can't imagine my man could pull off the boots :D

I think this should be more of 5 trendy items for men. Maybe I'm just old school but in a few year's time some of these items will not be essential anymore because fashion trends change erratically faster than the traffic in Edsa. (just my two cents)
